DNA Vaccines

Inovio is focused on discovering, developing, and enabling DNA vaccines

The prior section, Technology Overview, highlighted how the discovery and evolution of vaccination created significant new opportunities for a powerful new generation of preventive and therapeutic vaccines against diseases with significant unmet needs. These diseases include cancers and chronic infectious diseases such as HIV and hepatitis C virus.

The need and encouragement for this new generation of vaccines, called DNA vaccines, has been spurred on by both the successes and limitations of conventional vaccine technology. With the benefit of bioinformatics and genomic engineering, the ability to design and manufacture this new class of vaccines provides significant potential advantages with respect to development times, cost and ease of manufacturing, vaccine safety, types of immune responses that may be elicited, and the diseases that may be targeted.

Inovio's expertise in DNA vaccine discovery and development has enabled its scientists to create its proprietary SynCon® DNA vaccine design processes and constructs, and to advance a strong pipeline of preclinical and clinical vaccine candidates against cancers and infectious diseases.
