Patrick Gan

Mr. Patrick Gan achieved his honours degree in Pharmacy (BSc) at the National University of Singapore in 1982, and subsequently obtained an MBA from the University of Warwick in 1990. He has also attended executive programs at Harvard Business School, INSEAD and Duke University.He was with Glaxo Wellcome (1996-2000), first as the Managing Director of its Taiwan office. His immediate task following the merger between Glaxo and Wellcome, was to establish and grow the business of the newly formed company. By the time he handed over responsibility for the company, Glaxo Wellcome was half a month short in sales in order to be ranked number one in the pharmaceutical industry. Following his success in the Taiwan office, he was promoted to oversee the China operations as Managing Director, where his main task was to turn the business around, and establish the China operations as a viable and profitable enterprise. He accomplished this within 16 months. He was subsequently included as a member of the Glaxo Wellcome Leadership Team, which comprised a group of only the top 100 executives worldwide. He was then seconded to the Glaxo Wellcome office in Singapore as the Director of Integration for the merger with Smith Kline in the Asia Pacific region. In previous positions, Patrick was with Roche Pharmaceuticals & Chemicals, first in Singapore, and subsequently in Switzerland (the company’s headquarters) and China. In January 2004, he was appointed Tiger Airway’s Chief Executive Officer. He was highly successful in obtaining the Air Operator’s Certificate, building the airline’s operations and launching the airline’s commercial flights, all in record time and budget. He joined Broadven in 2005 as a Partner to head up the company’s biotech fund.
